Windy Grand Tornado 32 wins

2006 European Powerboat of the Year award

The Windy Grand Tornado 32 has been declared 2006 European Powerboat of the Year in the under 40ft (12m) category, fending off strong competition from a short list of over 40 other boats. Announced on the opening day of the 2006 Düsseldorf Boat Show in January, the awards were judged by a panel of senior journalists drawn from top yachting magazines in 10 European countries, including Boot in Germany, Motor Boat and Yachting in the UK, Barche a Motore in Italy, Waterkampioen in the Netherlands and Yate in Spain. Morten Haakstad, COO of Windy Boats AS, received the award on behalf of the company at a gala dinner on the evening of the 21st January, attended by over 300 industry luminaries.

Commenting on the first class performance of its new sportscruiser, Windy Boats President and CEO Knut Heiberg-Andersen said: Were delighted to have won this prestigious award, particularly with a model which is at the heart of our sportscruiser range. The Grand Tornado 32 is the ultimate high-performance weekender. Its predecessor, the Tornado 31, redefined the idea of sportsboating. This award is confirmation that Windy thinking on sportsboat design is second to none. It is a great accolade.

Windy boats are renowned for their sea-keeping abilities and the Grand Tornado 32 is designed to satisfy its Scandinavian clienteles requirement for rough-weather performance and confidence-inspiring handling, whilst also delivering the glamour and style demanded by the Mediterranean market. The weekender is designed to take twin 260 hp Volvo D4 outdrives, and features four berths and secure cockpit seating for six to seven. Tested last year by Motor Boat and Yachting it was summarised by Technical Editor Dave Marsh as the aquatic equivalent of the Porsche Boxster.
